Collaboration on Private Engagement Strategies in Accessing Green Finance Development

JAKARTA – May 22, 2024 marked the culmination of the Private Engagement Strategy in Accessing Green Financing Development. The event was organized as a collaboration between Fiscal Policy Agency – Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) – Greenwise Consulting to develop a national strategic document to achieve the 2030 NDC target. We facilitated the priority sectors of Water, Energy, AFOLU, and Food to map out the most suitable strategic measures by each sector. In addition to the priority sectors, we also sought opinions from financial institutions, investors, and government related entities in order to gain a balanced perspective on the FGD.

Eko Noor Prihandoko, representative of the NDA Indonesia Secretariat in his speech at the Focus Group Discussion: Private Engagement Strategy in Accessing Green Financing Development revealed the importance of the private sector to be involved in accessing green financing. Especially for the 4 priority sectors: Water, Energy, Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use/AFOLU, and Food.

Eko Nur Prihandoko’s statement was supported by Lenny Hidayat, Founder of Greenwise Consulting at the same occasion.

“Access to global resources and private sector engagement are critical to filling the gap between the funds needed and those available.”

In the plenary session, Lenny also said “MDBs, MFs, and other financiers have shown commitment to provide capital to Indonesia. Unfortunately, the private sector has not yet seized this opportunity, so it is imperative to increase private sector engagement in access to green finance”.

This FGD event took place in Jakarta with a total of more than 40 participants involved from various sectors which we divided into 3 groups: Supply (Financial Bodies), Demand 1 (Water & Energy), Demand 2 (Nature Base Solution/NBS & Food). All participants were involved in providing rankings and ratings through the TOWS Analysis that Greenwise Consulting has prepared based on the results of desk reviews, in-depth interviews, and Situation Analysis FGDs. The results of this TOWS Analysis will then be developed into a national strategic document, namely the Private Sector Engagement Strategy in Accessing Green Financing.
