Jakarta, November 19, 2025 — Greenwise Consulting, a sustainability advisory firm based in Jakarta, proudly announces that its research team has been published in the Journal of Infrastructure Policy and Management, Vol. 8 No. 2 (2025). The study, titled “Decarbonizing Infrastructure in Indonesia: Opportunities, Barriers, and Stakeholder Perspectives,” explores the critical pathways toward reducing emissions in Indonesia’s infrastructure sector.
The study, officially published under DOI https://doi.org/10.35166/jipm.v8i2.130, marks a significant milestone in advancing research on infrastructure decarbonization in Indonesia. This achievement not only represents academic success but also reinforces Greenwise’s position as a strategic partner for both the public and private sectors in driving Indonesia’s transition toward Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
The Urgent Issue: Decarbonizing Infrastructure
Globally, infrastructure development accounts for approximately 79% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with the energy, transportation, and industrial sectors being the largest contributors. In Indonesia, these same sectors play a dominant role in national emissions.
Through this study, Greenwise examined both the barriers and opportunities for emission reduction in these sectors by applying the 5M management framework (Material, Machine, Method, Money, Manpower) combined with the four pillars of decarbonization — Reduce, Reuse, Replace, and Remove.
Key Findings: Challenges and Opportunities
The study highlights several important findings:
- Low-carbon technologies and materials remain limited due to high upfront costs and outdated project specifications.
- Regulations and standards are still fragmented across institutions, leading to inconsistent implementation of green policies.
- Green finance mechanisms and fiscal incentives must be expanded to attract greater private sector participation.
- Human capital development is crucial — professionals require enhanced training and certification in low-carbon practices.
In addition to identifying Indonesia’s main challenges, the study emphasizes the importance of multi-sector collaboration among government agencies, industries, academia, and financial institutions to establish a measurable and sustainable low-carbon infrastructure ecosystem.
Implications for Business and Policy
For industry players and policymakers, this research provides a strategic roadmap on how ESG consulting in Indonesia and sustainability advisory services can play a transformative role in shaping the future of infrastructure projects.
